Pupil of the Week

I chose Indigo to be Pupil of the Week because she has worked really hard this week. I was impressed with how quickly you got on with your work Indigo and how much effort you put into your learning all week. Also you have participated really well in all of our reading lessons and are showing enthusiasm for reading. Keep up the hard work!

Write of the Week

I chose Tyler to be Writer of the Week because he has shown how much he has remembered from our previous writing lessons and kept up with his neat handwriting. I was impressed with your use of adverbials and parenthesis this week Tyler. Keep it up!

Home learning

I have been extremely impressed by children doing extra work at home this week. It shows me that you are enthusiastic about your learning and are being good learners at home and not just at school.

Nathan has written a fantastic report about Tudors and both King Henry VII and King Henry VIII.

Jacey has written brilliant facts about Queen Elizabeth I.

Llyric, with the help of her mum, found some interesting historical files that show life in the Tudor period.

We have learnt how to classify plants using a classification key. We have learnt what vascular and spores mean.
This is some of the amazing writing produced this week. The children have written about a plant of their choice.
This is Amelia’s brilliant diagram of the human heart.

Our class text is Pig Heart Boy. The boy in the text is posed with the dilemma whether to take a pig heart or not. Here are some of the opinions from year 6.

Well done to Nathan for completing the fact file about penguins. Who knew that penguins can swim under water for 10 to 15 minutes?

Your picture using nature is absolutely amazing and I had to share it with everyone. Nathan collected his materials from Sherwood Forest.

Well done to Amelia for completing her all about me booklet over the summer. After reading this Amelia, I feel I know you a little better and it is very clear you really really really like Harry Potter. You also wrote some fantastic facts about the hyacinth macaw.

Well done to Maja for creating a fact file about koalas. It is interesting to know that Koalas are often mistaken for bears but in fact are not.

Meet the teacher

Hi year 5 (soon to be year 6),

I hope you are all doing well and are looking forward to coming into school in September. Because we haven’t been able to have our usual transition time, I thought I would tell you a little about myself here on the blog.

I became a teacher 11 years ago (writing that makes me feel old). I really enjoy helping children to learn and discover new things. I like teaching all the different subjects; however, if I were made to choose, my favourite would be English. That is because I really enjoy reading. Two of my favourite books that I would recommend you read are ‘The Secret of Nightingale Wood’ by Lucy Strange and ‘Wild Boy’ by Rob Lloyd Jones.

Part of my job as a year 6 teacher is to prepare you for high school. This means that I will encourage you to work extremely hard and to do your very best. I have high expectations as you will be the oldest children in the school. Therefore, I will ask you to follow the school rules like you have done in every other year but I will need you to be role models for the younger children.  

I cannot wait to find out more about you all so please send me your transition work from the year 5 blog. I look forward to seeing all of you in September.
